The Argentine Government concluded a positive legislative week with the approval of most projects on the agenda for extraordinary sessions. There is hope to capitalize electorally on the support expressed by allies in both chambers. However, according to the Argentine News Agency, two positions are emerging regarding the future of governors and legislators from PRO, UCR, and MID leading up to 2027. On one hand, more radicalized members aim to incorporate all those willing to support President Javier Milei into the ranks of La Libertad Avanza (LLA) and strengthen the party's brand in the country's interior. "It is reasonable for those who support the president's project to formally join the process. The idea is to replicate alliances like in 2025 to break the hegemony of Peronism in provinces where it still has significant weight," a source involved told the Argentine News Agency. "We will compete with Peronism everywhere it is and support allies who seek re-election." More than a year later, libertarians do not rule out supporting the incumbents of Chaco (Leandro Zdero), Entre Ríos (Rogelio Frigerio), Mendoza (Alfredo Cornejo), and Catamarca (Raúl Jalil) if they run for another four-year term. They also prioritize contesting the governorships of Buenos Aires (Axel Kicillof), Formosa (Gildo Insfrán), La Rioja (Ricardo Quintela), La Pampa (Sergio Ziliotto), and Tierra del Fuego (Gustavo Melella). The October victory, where LLA won in 15 of the 24 jurisdictions, has motivated the party to work on expanding its representation in the interior, a pending task. This is being worked on by the Secretary-General of the Presidency, Karina Milei, who has convened a national meeting of the space for next Monday with the presence of the heads of the 23 provinces and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires to be held at 5 p.m. at the party's headquarters in Buenos Aires. "It is natural. They will have much more weight if they are inside," an important source with access to the presidential office told this agency. In the same vein, some hope for 2027 with their own governors from the transfer to the purple ranks, after several provincial governors such as Raúl Jalil (Catamarca), Osvaldo Jaldo (Tucumán), and Gustavo Sáenz (Salta) ordered their legislators to leave the Justicialist bloc. However, with more tact, another sector of the libertarian ecosystem, also involved in the legislative conversation, anticipated to this medium the possibility of supporting the re-election wishes of several provincial representatives who collaborated with the Executive.
LLA's Political Strategy in Argentina Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Argentine government had a productive legislative week. La Libertad Avanza is developing a strategy for the 2027 elections, considering supporting incumbent governors to expand its influence in provinces and compete with Peronism.
